Kensaku Oshiro is a Japanese designer based in Milan whose work is distinguished by clarity, softness, and a thoughtful dialogue between Japanese sensibility and Italian design culture. Born in 1977 on Okinawa Island, he moved to Milan in the 1990s and graduated from the Scuola Politecnica di Design in 1999. After early collaborations with several design studios, he joined Lissoni Associati in 2004, remained there until 2012, then moved to London to work with Barber Osgerby before founding his own studio in Milan in 2015.
Across furniture, lighting, and interior-related objects, Oshiro has developed a language that feels rigorous yet warm, often shaped by an interest in proportion, craftsmanship, and the essential character of materials. His studio describes each project as a unique challenge to be resolved on its own terms, while brand profiles consistently emphasize his multicultural perspective and his ability to move between artisanal quality and industrial production. Collaborations with brands such as Boffi, De Padova, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau, Glas Italia, and Viccarbe have established him as one of the most refined contemporary voices working between Japan and Europe.
