Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà

Born 1962 | Italy

Giuseppe Maurizio Scutellà was born in Alcamo, Sicily, in 1962 and moved with his family to Lumezzane, Lombardy, as a child. He graduated in 1981 as an industrial mechanical technician and spent twelve years as a Senior Project Tech Designer developing die-casting and plastic molds for companies including Kawasaki, Ducati, Mercedes, Gaggia, and Artemide. This technical foundation became central to a design practice that moves confidently between industrial rigor and artistic experimentation.

Scutellà later worked for fourteen years in research and development at Mepra while expanding into product design for household objects, lighting, furniture, and bathroom collections. His best-known work includes Pirce for Artemide, introduced in 2008 and awarded the Good Design Award, Red Dot Award, and iF Design Award, as well as Metropolis for Tonelli Design and RAK-Cloud and RAK-Petit for RAK Ceramics. Since 2024, he has operated through GMS Design S.r.l., continuing to explore the relationship between technology, light, material, and contemporary form.
