Lampada a Sospensione Le Soleil

Le Soleil was designed by Vicente Garcia Jimenez, a Spanish designer whose work for Foscarini often explores the relationship between sculptural form and light behavior. His approach treats the fixture itself as an optical instrument, not merely a decorative object.

The lamp's layered, spiraling silhouette references the architectural outline of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Garcia Jimenez translated that building's concentric, ascending geometry into a suspended form that functions both sculpturally and optically.

The asymmetric bands are opaque on their inner, upward-facing surfaces, which allows them to reflect ambient light toward the ceiling while simultaneously channeling a focused beam downward. This creates two distinct light qualities from a single fixture: diffused and direct.

Pendants with strong sculptural presence, like Le Soleil, tend to read best in spaces with ceiling heights of at least nine feet, where the form can be perceived fully and the dual light distribution performs as intended. An architect or lighting designer can help determine the ideal drop height for a specific room.

Founded in Venice in 1981, Foscarini operates as a design research company as much as a manufacturer. Each project begins from a concept rather than a brief, and the brand collaborates with designers including Ferruccio Laviani, Marc Sadler, and Vicente Garcia Jimenez to produce objects that expand the possibilities of light.
