Winter dream.
Set among the peaks of the Dolomites near Cortina d'Ampezzo, Chalet Cortina is the product of a collaboration between architect Isabella Genovese and Paolo Tormena, founder of Henge. The result is a residence in which design and regional tradition are brought into close register. Situated within one of the most established ski resorts in the world, the chalet has been renovated to bring Henge's design language into dialogue with the character of the site.
The structure is built primarily of reclaimed larch sourced from old barns in the surrounding valleys, and detailed inside with stone, metal, and considered textiles. The result is the warmth associated with traditional mountain houses, paired with an evident respect for the landscape and the building history of the region. Internally, the rooms have been organized for comfort and function, drawing in natural light through generous windows and glazed openings to produce interiors that read as quiet and luminous.
The furnishings, selected with care, are drawn from Henge. Among them are the Sisma table, the Tubular lights by Massimo Castagna, and the Origami coffee table by designer Ugo Cacciatori, alongside the Strip chairs and the SR coffee table, both also by Castagna. In the living area, the Downtown sofa, the Tambourine armchair, and the GellyPouf provide the principal seating, well suited to long evenings by the fireplace.
Each element within Chalet Cortina reflects the standards Henge applies to material selection and finish. The pairing of the brand's contemporary furnishings with the traditional fabric of the chalet is fully resolved, and the palette has been calibrated to sit naturally within the residence. The collaboration between Genovese and Tormena offers a clear example of how regional tradition can be brought into contemporary practice, producing a private retreat conceived for the mountain landscape that surrounds it.
