Il sistema USM Haller non nacque come mobile, ma come architettura. Negli anni '60, l'architetto svizzero Fritz Haller e l'industriale Paul Schärer svilupparono un sistema di costruzione modulare per la fabbrica USM a Münsingen, in Svizzera. La logica strutturale era così precisa, così formalmente risolta, che ridurla a mobile non richiese alcun compromesso. Ogni principio si traduceva intatto.
Lo scaffale H2 è una configurazione aperta all'interno di questo sistema. Il suo elemento distintivo è il connettore a sfera in acciaio cromato, un giunto che riceve elementi tubolari in acciaio da più direzioni e li tiene in perfetta tensione geometrica. Il risultato è una cornice dalla struttura visibile, dove i mezzi di costruzione e l'estetica sono inseparabili.
Gli scaffali aperti all'interno del sistema USM mettono in piena mostra oggetti, libri e materiali di lavoro. L'organizzazione è imposta dalle proporzioni dell'unità anziché essere nascosta dietro ante o pannelli.
