Alessandro Mendini first conceived the Proust armchair in 1978 for the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, applying a pointillist surface to a neo-Baroque silhouette as a provocation against functionalist orthodoxy. The gesture was both irreverent and precise: form borrowed from history, surface reinvented as painting.
The Proust Geometrica carries that inheritance forward. Where the original dissolved into a field of painterly dots, this version asserts itself in bold, flat colour blocks. The multi-coloured geometric fabric was designed by Mendini himself, giving the piece a graphic intensity that reads as clearly across a room as it does up close.
