Mini Glo-Ball Ceiling/Wall

Jasper Morrison conceived the Glo-Ball series in 1998 around a single, quiet idea: the full moon as a source of light. The Mini Glo-Ball Ceiling/Wall distills that idea to its smallest expression, a sphere of hand-blown, externally acid-etched opaline glass that dissolves the bulb within into an even, ambient luminescence.

The glass is flashed opaline, a process that layers color into the material itself rather than applying it to the surface. Acid etching further softens the exterior, eliminating hotspots and allowing light to read as atmosphere rather than source. A white injection-moulded PPS threaded ring nut secures the fitting to ceiling or wall with minimal visual interruption.

Morrison's Super Normal philosophy holds that the best objects are those that perform their function so completely they cease to draw attention to themselves. The Glo-Ball is a precise articulation of that position: a form so resolved it becomes part of a room's silence rather than its noise. MoMA's inclusion of the series in its permanent design collection affirms its place in the broader history of twentieth-century industrial design.
