Maarten Baas is a Dutch designer who graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2002. He rose to international prominence with projects like Smoke, in which he charred and resin-coated existing furniture, and Clay, a collection of hand-modeled pieces covered in industrial clay. His work consistently interrogates the boundary between fine art and functional design.

Each sculpture is hand-blown by master glassmakers at Lasvit's studio in Bohemia, Czech Republic, a region with centuries of glassmaking heritage. Because they are made to order and produced by hand, subtle variations in form and surface exist between individual pieces.

Baas has kept the naming deliberately opaque, cataloguing the three figures as BHSD-001, BHSD-002, and BHSD-003 in the manner of a scientific classification rather than a poetic title. The restraint in naming is consistent with the collection's ethos of naivety and directness.

Lasvit is a Czech glass studio founded in 2007 that draws on the deep technical tradition of Bohemian glassblowing, a craft practiced in the region for over 700 years. The studio collaborates with internationally recognized designers and artists to produce limited and bespoke glass objects and installations.

The BHSD figures work well in isolation or as a grouped trio, and their relatively compact scale suits shelving, pedestals, or low tables where the hand-blown glass can catch ambient light. Because each piece holds its own visual weight, placing them against a restrained backdrop allows the character of each form to read clearly.
