Sand casting is, by nature, a process that resists control. Omer Arbel exploits this resistance deliberately: molten red brass is poured into a sand mold and permitted to spill beyond its intended boundary. That overflow is not trimmed away. It stays, preserved as a permanent record of the moment of making.
The exterior oxidizes into a dense, highly textured surface. Turn the vessel over and the interior tells a different story, hand-polished to a smooth, reflective finish. The contrast between these two states is the object's central tension.
