Gwenael Nicolas

Nato nel 1966 | France

Gwenael Nicolas is a French designer born in 1966 who has built much of his career in Japan, where he developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning interior design, architecture, furniture, product design, and visual identity. He earned a degree in interior design from ESAG in Paris in 1988 and a master's degree in industrial design from the Royal College of Art in London in 1991. That same year, he moved to Japan, where he began working independently and later developed long-term collaborations across luxury retail, hospitality, and product design.

In 1998, Nicolas founded CURIOSITY in Tokyo, a studio that has become known for redefining the boundaries between architecture, interiors, and product design through a highly atmospheric and materially sophisticated approach. The studio's official profile describes its work as grounded in translucency, emotional coloring, and attractive forms, while its portfolio shows an exceptional range, from fashion flagships and hotel interiors to furniture and product collaborations. Nicolas's work stands out for combining sculptural fluency with precision and control, resulting in environments and objects that feel immersive, polished, and deeply contemporary.
