What began as a humble, 500 ft2 kiosk that focused on lighting concepts in North Miami Beach has grown over 50 years to become one of the most influential voices in the design industry today, fulfilling a role in communities across the globe as a purveyor and proponent of new ideas, not just products. As we look back on half a century ripe with wonderous moments and astonishing connections made exuberant and harmonious through the power of good design, we revel in a present flush with insightful brilliance and industry while anticipating a future replete with limitless possibilities.
This year during Design Miami Luminaire likewise marks 50 years of life-changing experiences and commercial success by looking toward the future, honoring a convergence with design leader Interni, a union that heralds a new chapter of excellence in Italian and international design. A global network that bridges cultures and continents from the United States to Europe and the Middle East, the Interni and Luminaire connection extends beyond a mere merger of two industry pioneers but rather represents a synergy of shared values, most of which exults good design as a total immersive experience that results in top-tier service with access to a wide range of selected contacts, suppliers, and artisans for individual clients and design studios. Luminaire’s 50th anniversary celebration will also offer an exclusive opportunity for design enthusiasts, trade partners, and members of the general public to engage with “Array of Emotions” featuring MDF Italia/Acerbis and “The Scent of Glass” with SantambrogioMilano while connecting with design luminaries and exploring new and transformative ideas. At the Luminaire Lab, located in the heart of the Miami Design District, guests will become immersed in an “Array of Emotions” a world filled of enchanting design, a space for discovery and mind-opening ingenuity while basking in the company of knowledgeable individuals who elucidate the many ways good design can affect lives for the better, whether embracing the warm and inviting atmosphere of MDF Italia’s collaboration with architecture studio Pitsou Kedem, as experienced during the 2024 Salone del Mobile in Milan, or welcoming emerging, avant-garde design from the likes of Sabine Marcelis and Pietro Russo in an appealing Acerbis space.
Meanwhile at the Luminaire flagship showroom in Coral Gables, revealing the bewitching power of crystalline forms, “The Scent of Glass” will feature a stunning installation from the masters of glass SantambrogioMilano will also be on view during Design Miami 2024. Guests will uncover the magic of glass through unexpected structures like a completely transparent billiard and ping pong table, highlighting the durability and mesmerizing command of that which is translucent yet masterfully crafted.
