Poltrona Frau

Poltrona Frau was founded in 1912 in Turin, Italy by Renzo Frau.

Inimitable aesthetic, cultured perspective, and a “Made in Italy” sophistication shapes this story that spans over a century, a story of refined design built to last and crafted for the most discerning customer, elegant, symphonic, and composed. Poltrona Frau was founded in 1912 in Turin, Italy by Renzo Frau, who found himself drawn to the classic styles of French and Central European furniture. Since it’s inception, the brand has grown synonymous with clean simplicity, urbane sensibilities, and discriminating tastes, collaborating with highly revered designers like Jean-Marie Massaud, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, Rodolfo Dordoni, Foster and Partners, Piero Lissoni, Ross Lovegrove, Roberto Lazzeroni, and Claudio Silvestrin, while exhibiting works from design icons like Achille Castiglioni, Enzo Mari, Oscar Niemeyer, Lella and Massimo Vignelli, and Gio Ponti.

In a balanced mix of expert craftsmanship and research, sustainability and co-design, and passion and flair, Poltrona Frau designs and manufactures products that are rooted in the past yet address our contemporary needs, styles that are timeless and thus always remain relevant and emotive. Production processes are executed with respect to the environment and its resources, resting on the forefront of technological advancement and meeting only the best in quality standards. In fact, the Tolentino plant boasts a photovoltaic system since 2010 which guarantees energy autonomy. The brand also selects only the finest of full-grain European leathers, while also manufacturing its own exclusive Pelle Frau leather, achieved through select processes based on twenty production phases, and resulting in furnishings that are at once enduring, visually arresting, and appealing in rich tactility.

In 2013, the Poltrona Frau Museum, designed by Michele De Lucchi, opened with the aim of contributing to the creation of a collective historical memory of Italian design and craftsmanship through the remarkable collection of work that inspires our senses. Whether invigorating homes with furnishings that scintillate, producing custom-made furnishings for the transport sector, or engaging in one-off projects, like designing the interior of a Ferrari production car, Poltrona Frau has infused the world with good design for years upon years, a story still in the making, one of human-centered design peppered with masters of modern interiors, generating striking environments both classic and contemporary.
