Press Floor Lamp

Mingei, meaning 'folk craft' in Japanese, was a mid-twentieth century movement championed by Soetsu Yanagi that celebrated the beauty found in everyday objects made by anonymous craftspeople through honest, unpretentious work. Nendo referenced this philosophy in the Press lamp by allowing the forming process itself, hand pressure applied directly to molten glass, to determine the final shape rather than imposing a predetermined mold.

The glass tube is worked while hot and pliable, pressed and pinched by hand to create the lamp's characteristic organic profile. This technique means each piece carries subtle variation, a direct record of the maker's touch rather than mechanical repetition.

The Clear finish allows light to pass with minimal interference, making the pressed form and the frame beneath it visible from most angles. The Smoke finish introduces a grey tonal depth that softens the glow and gives the lamp a more inward, contemplative presence, particularly suited to spaces where ambient rather than direct light is the goal.

Nendo is the Tokyo-based studio founded by Oki Sato in 2002. The practice is known for designs that appear simple on first encounter but reward closer attention with conceptual precision. Sato frequently works across furniture, lighting, and objects, often collaborating with leading European manufacturers to translate Japanese spatial sensibility through Western craft traditions.

Lasvit is a Czech glass studio founded in 2009, drawing on Bohemia's centuries-long tradition of fine glassmaking. The brand commissions internationally recognized designers and artists to work with Czech glass artisans, producing lighting and objects that sit at the boundary between design and sculpture.
