Egg™ Chair - 3316
Made by Fritz Hansen
Designed by Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen conceived the Egg™ in 1958 as part of a complete interior commission for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The brief demanded furniture that could define a public space without sacrificing intimacy, and the answer was a form that envelops rather than simply supports.
The shell is sculpted fiberglass, upholstered in fabric or leather over cold-cured foam. Its continuous, curving silhouette wraps around the body on three sides, creating a self-contained atmosphere within an open room. This quality, rare in lounge seating, was entirely deliberate.
- Fiberglass shell construction with cold-cured foam upholstery
- Four-star polished aluminum swivel base with tilt mechanism
- Available in a wide range of Fritz Hansen fabrics and leathers
Jacobsen worked across architecture, interiors, furniture, and industrial design with the same disciplined sensibility. The Egg™ reflects that totality: it reads as sculpture from across a room and as a considered seat the moment you sit in it. Fritz Hansen has produced it continuously since its debut, preserving the original proportions and technical specifications.
