Michele De Lucchi was born in Ferrara, Italy, in 1951. He studied architecture in Florence and emerged as an influential figure within Italy's radical design movement. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, he participated in Studio Alchimia and became one of the leading members of the Memphis group, contributing furniture, lighting, and objects distinguished by bold geometry, vivid color, and an unconventional approach to form.
From 1988 to 2002, De Lucchi directed design at Olivetti, developing products, work environments, and corporate identities. His extensive career includes architecture, furniture, lighting, interiors, exhibition design, sculpture, and handcrafted objects. Among his most recognized works is the Tolomeo lamp for Artemide, created with Giancarlo Fassina and awarded the Compasso d'Oro. Through AMDL CIRCLE and Produzione Privata, De Lucchi continues to explore the relationship between architecture, craftsmanship, technology, nature, and human experience. He received the Compasso d'Oro Career Award in 2022 and was appointed an Officer of France's Order of Arts and Letters in 2025.
