Vulcano
Made by Flexform
Designed by Antonio Citterio

Domande Frequenti
What makes stainless steel 316 suitable for outdoor furniture?
Stainless steel 316 contains molybdenum, which significantly improves its resistance to chloride corrosion compared to standard 304 grade. This makes it the appropriate choice for coastal environments, where salt air and moisture would accelerate the degradation of lesser alloys.
What is the difference between polypropylene and polyurethane weave options?
Polypropylene fiber is lighter and highly resistant to UV fading and moisture absorption, making it a practical choice for exposed settings. Polyurethane rubber offers a denser hand and greater elasticity, lending the weave a subtly different tactile quality and visual weight.
Can the Vulcano be configured as a sectional?
Yes. The Vulcano is a modular seating system, meaning individual elements can be combined to create sectional arrangements suited to a range of terrace and garden dimensions. The modular logic allows both compact groupings and expansive configurations.
Why is marine plywood used for the base rather than solid wood or aluminum?
Marine plywood is engineered with waterproof adhesives and void-free core veneers, giving it superior dimensional stability under fluctuating moisture and temperature conditions. Unlike solid wood, it resists warping and splitting; unlike aluminum, it contributes acoustic density and a grounded feel to the overall structure.
Who designs Flexform's outdoor collections?
Flexform's design direction has long been shaped by Antonio Citterio, who has been the brand's primary creative partner since the 1980s. His approach consistently prioritizes proportion and material logic over trend-driven form, a sensibility that translates directly into the Vulcano's restrained aesthetic.
