Mate è nato da una semplice intuizione. I designer milanesi Annalisa Dominoni e Benedetto Quaquaro, il duo creativo (a+b), hanno preso una sedia, l'hanno capovolta e si sono chiesti quale nuovo scopo potesse servire quella forma familiare.
La risposta è un servomuto che sembra quasi inevitabile. Una struttura in tubolare d'acciaio quadrato verniciato a polvere forma la struttura; lo schienale a scala si presenta ora come una serie di sbarre orizzontali per cappotti, borse, giacche e altri oggetti che ci togliamo sulla soglia tra l'esterno e l'interno. La silhouette è essenziale e geometrica, adatta sia a un ingresso che accanto a un letto.
