Kaiser Idell™ Floor Lamp
Made by Fritz Hansen
Christian Dell spent years forging silver and studying at the Bauhaus in Weimar before the Kaiser Idell series became his most enduring contribution to modern design. The Kaiser Idell™ Floor Lamp, drawn up in 1936, carries the direct influence of that Bauhaus formation: geometric volumes, purposeful proportion, and an absence of ornament that still reads as a considered choice rather than an omission.
The shade pivots on a ball joint and tilts to direct light with accuracy. Height is adjustable along the column, allowing the lamp to shift from broad ambient illumination to focused task light depending on position. These are not incidental details. They reflect Dell's training in metalwork, where precision of movement was as important as the object's silhouette at rest.
- Designed by Christian Dell, 1936
- Ball-jointed, tilt-adjustable lampshade for directional control
- Adjustable column height
- Geometric form rooted in Bauhaus design principles
Fritz Hansen produces the Kaiser Idell collection today with the same fidelity to Dell's original drawings, keeping the lamp's material presence and mechanical clarity intact across nearly ninety years of production.
