E004 Embrace Chair

The E004 Embrace Chair arrived in 2019 as part of the Embrace Series, a collaboration between Carl Hansen & Søn and Viennese design studio EOOS. The studio was founded by Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohmann, and Harald Gründl, three designers whose practice sits at the intersection of cultural theory and precise formal thinking.

Without armrests, the chair occupies a minimal footprint and offers an unusual generosity of movement. Sitters shift, turn, and lean with ease - a quality that matters at a table where conversation, not posture, should take precedence.

The upholstery is folded in two dimensions, a gesture that reads as relaxed against the exactness of the shaped oak frame. That contrast is deliberate: softness and structure held in balance rather than resolved into one another. The FSC-certified oak is finished in white oil, preserving the grain's natural character while protecting the wood over years of use.

Carl Hansen & Søn has produced furniture in Denmark since 1908. The workshop's ongoing relevance comes from applying the same standards of joinery and material selection to contemporary commissions that it has always applied to its archive of Scandinavian classics.
