Guido Deleu

Guido Deleu

Nato nel 1932 | Belgium

Guido Deleu was a Belgian sculptor and civil engineer whose work is celebrated for its clarity, warmth, and understated emotional power. Born in 1932 in Menen, Belgium, he spent most of his professional life working for Philips before dedicating himself fully to art later in life. His artistic formation began at the Academy of Arts in Roeselare and continued through marble-carving workshops in Carrara, Italy, experiences that shaped a sculptural language grounded in simplicity, proportion, and calm presence.

Deleu became especially known for The Visitor, the now-iconic figure originally conceived in 1996 for a competition to create a sculpture for the entrance of a cultural center in Flanders. Over time, that character evolved into his most recognized work, admired for its gentle silhouette and universal sense of welcome. His creations in ceramic and bronze are widely appreciated for their contemporary elegance and approachable humanity, qualities that resonate strongly within the Luminaire context. Guido Deleu died in April 2025.
