Ann Van Hoey

Nato nel 1956 | Belgium

Ann Van Hoey is a Belgian ceramic artist whose work is distinguished by mathematical precision, sculptural restraint, and a deeply refined sense of balance. Born in 1956 in Mechelen, Belgium, she did not begin her career as an artist. She first studied applied economic sciences at the University of Antwerp and spent many years working in the furniture industry before fully committing to ceramics. That shift brought a singular perspective to her practice, one shaped equally by analytical thinking and material sensitivity.

After studying ceramics at the Institute for Arts and Craft in Mechelen, Van Hoey established her own studio in 2006 and quickly gained international recognition. Her work often begins with mathematical equations and explores geometric transformation through folded clay, drawing inspiration from Japanese origami, Zen gardens, and architectural form. The resulting vessels and sculptural objects feel both rigorous and poetic, combining purity, tension, and calm with exceptional technical control. Her work has been shown internationally and is held in major collections including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, the Royal Museum of Art and History in Brussels, Musee Ariana in Geneva, and the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza.
