La librería Veliero, un icono del diseño italiano, fue creada por Franco Albini como pieza única en 1940 para su casa de Milán. Como casi ningún otro proyecto, esta pieza expresa un concepto fundamental del diseñador milanés: la ligereza. Altamente experimental, la estructura tensada de Veliero combina técnica y poesía, aprovechando al máximo las características técnicas de los materiales.

El concepto de "equilibrio inestable" se alcanza mediante la aparente simplicidad y la reducción al mínimo de componentes. La librería "Veliero" evoca las estays de un velero en su forma y estructura. En 1940, fue un reto para el propio Franco Albini, quien fabricó un solo modelo expresamente para su hogar. En 2011, fue un reto para Cassina, que ha recuperado este modelo resolviendo los aspectos estructurales con una reedición que conserva intactas la ligereza y la transparencia del modelo original.
