Since its inception, Cassina has represented a belief in line with Luminaire that good design has the power to affect people’s lives. This shared vision is the foundation for the first exhibition in Luminaire’s newly expanded Flagship Showroom in Coral Gables.
Now open, Luminaire Loft is an experimental exhibition space that creatively tells the stories behind design through innovative programming. The debut installation, Design Intersection: Cassina, explores icons from the Italian design brand’s collection by juxtaposing them into whimsical vignettes that create a unique dialogue between object, space, and context.
Dramatically contained within a geometric system of frames and panels, the assortment of important designs from Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeannaret, Charlotte Perriand, Gaetano Pesce, Gio Ponti, Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, and others represents the timeless quality of good design. The pieces are arranged in four distinctive vignettes that are united by their playful arrangements. The essences of each product are reflected in their surroundings; the Leggera Chairsfloat in the air as a way to explore the lightweight qualities of the design while the Red and Blue Armchair is surrounded by a field of tulips which recall the designer’s Dutch heritage. By removing the products from the typical context within living environments, each design may be viewed through a new context that highlights the unique components of each piece.
Located on the second floor of the modernist addition, the exhibition space features an expansive open area and Luminaire’s signature black metal staircase. The space features high ceilings and was designed using a minimal material palette and careful attention to design details. Representing Luminaire’s continued pursuit to create invigorated environments that affect people’s lives, the Loft is one part of a three-year initiative to expand our research into good design which culminated in our newest endeavor at the Coral Gables showroom.
