On Thursday, May 3, 2018, Luminaire was honored to welcome celebrated architect Chad Oppenheim to the Coral Gables showroom to celebrate the official launch of his first published monograph, Spirit of Place. The beautifully constructed book by Tra-Publishing is a poetic rumination of how architecture connects with the earth that takes the reader into a world where boundaries are blurred between nature and architecture, heightening our awareness of the beauty that surrounds us.
Inaugurating the evening, Luminaire co-founder Nasir Kassamali gave Oppenheim a warm welcome to the stage for a lecture that provided an insightful look into the images within the book, detailing each featured project by his world-renowned firm, Oppenheim Architecture. During his lecture, the Miami-based architect shared the stories and inspiration behind the firm’s designs, focusing on the importance of creating with the land, demonstrating his passion and sensitivity towards man and nature.
Following Oppenheim’s lecture, architecture critic, and journalist Alastair Gordon joined the conversation, involving the audience to discuss how the architecture firm works through conflicts such as budget restrictions and material limitations.
Immediately after the talk, attendees queued to purchase the monograph which Oppenheim signed on-site while accompanied by his curiously-attentive son, Hendrix.
