During Design.05, the international design forum that would later become Design Miami, Luminaire joined forces with Edra to curate a stunning exhibition called Second Nature. Presented at Luminaire Contract, Second Nature highlighted a whimsical use of daily materials, challenging the eye to view these objects in a different way.
One piece in the exhibition, Earth Mother, was an provocative installation created entirely out of baby bottle nipples. Artist and designer Federico Uribe often utilizes found or everyday objects in his work, assembling them with much patience. Although the materials used in Earth Mother were simple, everyday objects, the installation itself was dynamic, commanding rapt attention with its colorful, lively translucence.
Natural landscapes of notable pieces by Edra also emphasized the beauty and the pleasure design can provide to the senses. With a youthful drive and a brilliant, trendsetter image, Edra shed new light on Italian design and encouraged visitors to rethink the materials used in design, allowing the sensuality of fabrics, leather, methacrylate and wood to speak directly to guests.
In Second Nature, Luminaire and Edra indeed created a distinctive new environment that stimulated people’s minds as well as their senses, showing that design is more than a product – design is an integral facet of people’s everyday lives.
