Honey-pop is a bold, original creation by renowned Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka. Luminaire was proud to present this progressive design and introduce this significance of this work to the larger design community.
Realized in a two-dimensional build of 120 pieces of Honeycomb-structured glassine paper, No Honey-pop is identical, with each piece being meticulously hand crafted by Tokujin himself. From this original design came the inspiration for the iconic Tokyo-pop series Tokujin later designed for Italian manufacturer Driade, comprised of a chaise, sofa, chair, stool and coffee table.
According to Tokujin, ‘The reason why I select materials is not because they are interesting or new, my constant research is how to make materials even more interesting. this goes for colour too and I’m integrating gravity and the surrounding space in my designs.’
During Art Basel Miami Beach 2004, visitors from all over the world explored these bold new lines and the wonder of glassine paper on exhibition at Luminaire’s Contract Showroom in the historic Miami Design District.
