Conceived by Ingo Maurer in 1997, the Zettel'z chandelier is one of the most recognizable works in his catalog, sitting at the intersection of light, language, and participation. Eighty sheets of Japanese notepaper are clipped to a radial armature of stainless steel wire cables with ordinary paper clips, an act of deliberate informality that gives the fixture its character.
Thirty-one sheets arrive pre-printed with notes, poems, and fragments in multiple languages. The remaining forty-nine are left intentionally blank, an open invitation for the owner to contribute their own writing, drawings, or found ephemera. The fixture changes with its keeper over time.
