Willydilly Pendant Lamp
Made by Ingo Maurer
Designed by Ingo Maurer
Ingo Maurer spent his career treating light as a medium for poetry. The Willydilly pendant is one of his more quietly playful expressions: a shade cut and folded from translucent white cardboard, assembled by hand into a form that shifts with each configuration. No two installations need look identical.
The shade attaches to its supply line with a simple clear clamp, keeping the composition as unencumbered as possible. What remains is the silhouette - organic, paper-thin, and faintly luminous when lit. The material carries its own delicacy; cardboard, chosen deliberately, rewards a close eye with subtle texture and a warm diffusion of light.

Frequently Asked Questions
What material is the Willydilly shade made from?
The shade is constructed from white translucent cardboard, a material Ingo Maurer selected for its paper-like delicacy and warm light diffusion. It is lightweight and folds along scored lines to achieve its origami-inspired form.
Do I assemble the Willydilly shade myself?
Yes. The shade arrives flat and is folded and assembled by the owner, following Maurer's scored geometry. The configuration can also be varied after installation, allowing the form to evolve over time.
How does the Willydilly attach to the ceiling?
The shade clips onto the pendant's supply line using a clear-colored clamp, keeping the hardware discreet and the overall composition visually light.
Is the Willydilly suitable for commercial spaces?
Maurer designed the pendant with both residential and commercial applications in mind. Its compact scale and graphic silhouette translate well in hospitality, retail, and studio environments where a considered, sculptural presence is preferred over conventional fixtures.
Who was Ingo Maurer and what defined his design approach?
Ingo Maurer (1932-2019) was a German lighting designer widely regarded as one of the most inventive figures in the field. Working from Munich, he approached each project as an artistic proposition, frequently using unexpected materials and poetic form to reframe the relationship between light, object, and space.
