Termoska Vase
Made by Anna Torfs
Designed by Anna Torfs
Anna Torfs works within a Bohemian glassblowing tradition that stretches back more than two centuries, applying those inherited techniques to a sensibility that is wholly contemporary. The Termoska Vase is the result: a hand-blown object that reads as sculpture first, vessel second.
Organic geometric volumes give the form its quiet drama. As light passes through layered colored glass, it refracts differently depending on the angle and the hour, so the piece changes in character without moving. The interplay between translucent and opaque surfaces is deliberate, producing depth that flat or uniform glass cannot achieve.
- Hand-blown using traditional Bohemian techniques
- Layered colored glass with translucent and opaque passages
- Each piece is unique by nature of the hand-craft process
- Made to order
Torfs studied the material rigorously before making it her own. Her objects carry the weight of that knowledge without announcing it, and the Termoska is no exception.

Frequently Asked Questions
What glassblowing tradition informs the Termoska Vase?
Anna Torfs draws on Bohemian glassblowing, a craft centered in what is now the Czech Republic with roots going back several centuries. Many of the forming and layering techniques she uses have remained largely unchanged for over 200 years.
Is each Termoska Vase identical?
No two pieces are exactly alike. Because the Termoska is hand-blown, natural variation in form, color depth, and surface character is inherent to the process, making each object genuinely individual.
How does the layered glass affect the appearance of the vase?
The combination of translucent and opaque glass layers causes light to refract, absorb, and reflect in ways that shift with viewing angle and ambient lighting. The vase reads differently in morning light than it does under artificial light in the evening.
What is Anna Torfs's background as a designer?
Anna Torfs is a Belgian designer who has dedicated her practice to handcrafted glass objects. She works closely with Bohemian artisans, combining European craft heritage with a contemporary formal language rooted in restraint and materiality.
Is the Termoska Vase functional as well as decorative?
Yes, the Termoska is a working vase, though its sculptural presence means it is equally compelling when empty. Its weight, proportion, and surface quality place it firmly in the category of functional art objects.
