Roma Vase
Ivan Baj's Roma Vase is a study in the ancient discipline of Murano glassmaking, where breath and hand are the only tools that matter. Each vessel passes through fire and skilled hands before it arrives at its final form, a process unchanged in its essentials for centuries.
The Roma series offers two distinct characters. Vase A stands taller and narrower, cast in a deep ocean tone that gives way to a dipped champagne base. Vase C is shorter and wider, its warm amber body meeting the same champagne finish below. The pairing is deliberate: the two forms are conceived in dialogue, each complete on its own yet more resolved in conversation with the other.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Roma Vase A and Vase C?
Vase A is the taller, narrower form finished in ocean glass with a dipped champagne base. Vase C is shorter and wider, offered in warm amber with the same champagne base treatment. Both are produced in Murano, Italy by Arcade.
How is Murano glass mouth-blown, and why does it matter?
Mouth-blowing requires a glassblower to shape molten glass using breath and hand tools alone, without mechanical molds. The resulting form carries subtle variations that are inherent to the process, making each piece genuinely individual rather than perfectly uniform.
Who is Ivan Baj?
Ivan Baj is a designer and creative force behind Arcade Murano, a Venetian atelier dedicated to preserving and evolving the traditions of Murano glassmaking. His work sits at the intersection of classical craft and contemporary form.
Is the Roma Vase made to order?
Yes. Because each piece is mouth-blown and hand-shaped by Murano artisans, the Roma Vase is produced to order. Lead times reflect the care required at each stage of production.
Can the Roma Vase hold water and fresh flowers?
Murano glass vessels of this type are generally suitable for water and cut flowers, though their primary identity is as sculptural objects. It is advisable to confirm care instructions with the point of purchase, as some finishes or forms may have specific recommendations.
