Ivan Baj

Born 1957 | Italy

Ivan Baj is an Italian glass artist and designer whose work bridges collectible design, Murano craftsmanship, and a highly personal visual imagination. Born in 1957, he first trained as a ceramist at Rosenthal and Ginori in the 1970s before turning to Murano glass, encouraged by his friendship with Anna Venini and Laura de Santillana. In 1989, he founded Arcade, the brand through which he developed collections with international designers and artists including Laura de Santillana, Paola Navone, and Marcello Panza.

More recently, Baj has expanded his practice through Voyages, a body of unique works inspired by places, encounters, memories, and atmosphere. These pieces are entirely hand modeled and mouth blown in Murano, translating travel into sculptural glass with exceptional sensitivity and freedom. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in permanent collections including the Museo del Vetro in Murano, the Grassi Museum fur angewandte Kunst in Leipzig, and the Museo d'Arte Moderna in Lissone. He lives and works in Sardinia, and his work continues to stand out for its sensuality, refinement, and imaginative command of glass as an expressive medium.
