My New Flame LED Table Lamp

My New Flame is a collaboration between Ingo Maurer, the Munich-based lighting poet known for works that blend technology with emotional resonance, and Moritz Waldemeyer, a London-based designer and engineer whose practice sits at the intersection of electronics, light, and performance.

The flame sequence is derived from actual video footage of a burning candle, and a proprietary random algorithm ensures the flicker pattern never repeats. At a normal viewing distance, the color and movement are calibrated closely enough that the light reads as a genuine flame. Only on close inspection does the pixel grid of the LED display become apparent.

Yes. The bare circuit board is a conscious design decision, not a utilitarian afterthought. It places the technology in full view, creating a formal tension between the digital mechanism and the ancient gesture of candlelight it is imitating.

My New Flame is designed as an atmospheric object rather than a task light. Its purpose is to introduce the quality and mood of candlelight into a space without an open flame, making it well suited to dining, hospitality, or any setting where ambient warmth is the priority.
