Farfalla Nutcracker

Enzo Mari (1932-2020) was one of the most consequential Italian designers and theorists of the twentieth century, known for his uncompromising belief that good design must be accessible, honest, and free of ornament. His work spans furniture, objects, and written theory, and his influence on contemporary design thinking remains profound.

Mari conceived the Farfalla in the late 1990s, but it was never manufactured during that period. Alessi brought it into production in 2021 as a tribute following Mari's death in 2020, giving a long-dormant design its first physical realization.
