Albero
Made by Poltrona Frau
Designed by Gianfranco Frattini
Albero by Poltrona Frau is a freestanding bookcase that transcends its function, commanding any interior with the presence of a sculptural object. Crafted from solid Canaletto walnut, its architecture is built around two toothed supports joined by a precision rack joint and four vertical pillars with evenly spaced holes, allowing for the configuration of either 8 or 12 shelves. The shelves themselves are finished in wood-veneered MDF, maintaining visual continuity with the warmth of the walnut structure.
Engineered to stand without wall support, Albero is anchored between floor and ceiling through a system of four metal locknuts housed within top and bottom caps. The top cap seats into a ceiling-mounted cup while the bottom grips the floor with a non-slip rubber base, ensuring stability without compromising the piece's freestanding elegance. All fixing elements carry an antiqued burnished steel finish, and the designer's signature alongside the Poltrona Frau logo are laser engraved on the lower toothed support.
Designed to rotate a full 360 degrees, Albero invites interaction and adapts to the rhythm of the room rather than being confined by it. Upon request, each shelf can be fitted with 4mm Cuoio Saddle leather inserts, featuring tone-on-tone dyed edges, hand markings, and the Poltrona Frau brand mark, adding a layer of bespoke refinement that is unmistakably Italian.
