Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini was an Italian architect and designer born in Padua in 1926. He graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1953 and remained based in Milan throughout his career, developing a body of work centered on interiors and industrial design. In 1956, he was among the founders of ADI, the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, and became an active presence in exhibitions, congresses, and design fairs, earning numerous awards over the course of his career.

Frattini is remembered as one of the key figures of postwar Italian design, admired for furniture and objects that combined architectural discipline with tactile richness and understated sophistication. His work often explored wood with exceptional intelligence, creating pieces that feel both technically resolved and warmly inviting. Designs such as the 780/783 tables and his many seating and storage pieces remain celebrated for their clarity, proportion, and enduring livability. He died in 2004, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate across contemporary interior
