    Description

1968: Radical Italian Design, the latest venture by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari’s Toilet Paper in collaboration with the Deste Foundation in Athens, presents an unconventional, vibrant journey through Dakis Joannou's assortment of Italian Radical Design furniture. Spearheaded by pioneering design studios such as Archizoom, Superstudio, Global Tools, and 9999, Radical Design staunchly opposed conventional ethics and notions of "good design" or taste. Toilet Paper’s daring and mischievous interpretation of Joannou’s collection yields captivating, high-contrast photographs that blend the alluring contours of Radical Design furniture and objects with the graceful curves of contemporary nymphs frolicking amidst them. Presented in the format of a board book and named after a pivotal year for architecture, design, and global events, 1968 encapsulates a medley of dreams and nightmares—a visually striking anthology of colorful, ironic artifacts and figures. Simultaneously evoking a charmingly retro aura and an unsettlingly surreal atmosphere, 1968 also features illustrations by Alessandro Mendini, one of the leading architects of the Radical Design movement.
