JU01™ Utzon Stool

Jørn Utzon designed the JU01 stool during the same decade he conceived the Sydney Opera House, and the kinship is unmistakable. Both carry a preoccupation with organic form, with structure that appears to grow rather than be assembled.
The stool is built from oiled solid beech and oiled beech veneer, finished with brass detailing at the joints. The material combination is deliberate: beech for its warm, close grain and responsiveness to oil finishes; brass for a quiet counterpoint that ages with the wood rather than against it.

Utzon (1918-2008) studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and later worked alongside Alvar Aalto in Helsinki, an influence visible in his sensitivity to material and human scale. Fritz Hansen has produced this piece with the same rigor applied to its broader archive of Danish modern classics, honoring the original design without revision.
