Eileen Gray conceived the Double X as a conversation between two traditions: the industrial precision of tubular steel and the long, communal logic of the refectory table. The result is a piece that carries both references without being defined by either.
The X-shaped base is structural and expressive in equal measure. Chrome-plated tubular steel provides rigidity while keeping the visual weight of the frame light, allowing the tabletop to read as a plane suspended in space.
- Frame: chrome-plated tubular steel
- Tabletop: MDF with real-wood veneer in ash, black-stained ash, or walnut, finished with clear varnish
- Tabletop alternative: high-gloss lacquer in black, or clear crystal glass
- Height-adjustable metal gliders
Gray's design sensibility was never confined to a single room or function. The Double X moves fluently between dining room and studio, between shared meal and solitary work. ClassiCon produces it in strict adherence to Gray's original specifications, ensuring the proportions and material relationships she intended remain intact.
