Hans J. Wegner designed the CH78 in 1954 as a natural evolution of his earlier CH71, seeking a lounge chair that felt generous without becoming imposing. The result became one of his most beloved forms, its curved profile earning the affectionate name it carries to this day.
Where many lounge chairs of the postwar era leaned toward mass and weight, the CH78 answers with a different proposition: an enveloping embrace held up by a light, composed frame. The sculptural armrests and softly rounded back draw the body in, while solid wood legs and structure provide the stability that Wegner's work consistently demanded.
Available in oak or walnut, with upholstery in Hallingdal or Fiord fabric, the chair adapts across contexts without losing its essential character. An optional leather or fabric headrest completes the composition, available separately.
Carl Hansen and Søn reissues the CH78 as part of its ongoing stewardship of Wegner's archive, preserving the proportions and material rigor of the original design.
