Nanda Vigo

Nanda Vigo was born in Milan in 1936. After graduating from the Institut Polytechnique in Lausanne and completing an important period of training in San Francisco, she returned to Milan and opened her own studio in 1959. Her early fascination with Giuseppe Terragni's architecture helped shape a lifelong interest in light, perception, and the emotional possibilities of space.

Vigo became closely connected to the Italian avant-garde and the international ZERO movement, developing an interdisciplinary practice across architecture, interiors, furniture, sculpture, and installations. Her work frequently employed glass, mirrors, aluminum, and artificial light to dissolve conventional spatial limits and create what she described through her chronotopic research as environments shaped by time, light, and perception. She collaborated with figures including Gio Ponti, Lucio Fontana, and Piero Manzoni, and created celebrated projects such as the Golden Gate lamp and the Casa Museo Remo Brindisi. Her work entered the permanent collection of the Triennale Design Museum, and she received the Compasso d'Oro Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Vigo died in Milan that same year.
