Linde Freya Tangelder was born in Doetinchem, the Netherlands, in 1987. Raised within a Dutch-Brazilian cultural background, she developed an early sensitivity to materials, craftsmanship, and the emotional value of objects. She studied at Design Academy Eindhoven and gained professional experience with Studio Unfold in Antwerp and the Campana Brothers in Sao Paulo before graduating in 2014. That same year, she founded Destroyers/Builders, an independent design studio now based between Brussels and Antwerp.
Her practice moves between furniture, interiors, architectural elements, and collectible objects. Drawing inspiration from construction techniques and structural archetypes, Tangelder reduces architectural forms to a human scale and transforms them through hand-finishing, material contrast, and controlled imperfection. She works with materials ranging from aluminum, steel, and glass to wax, stone, wood, and textiles. Her collaborations include Cassina, cc-tapis, Dior, and Valerie Objects, while her work has been presented by galleries and cultural institutions internationally. She was named Belgian Designer of the Year in 2019 and received the EDIDA Young Design Talent of the Year award in 2023.
