Kate Chung is a Taiwanese product designer whose work is defined by restraint, material sensitivity, and a thoughtful dialogue between contemporary living and East Asian cultural references. She graduated from Domus Academy in Milan in 2003, then worked at DEM Inc. as a senior designer before becoming design director at JIA Inc. In 2009, she co-founded KateChungDesign with Steve Cheng, establishing an independent studio spanning product design, interior design, and graphic design.
Her work is especially distinguished by a philosophy of simplicity and a consistent search for balance between beauty and utility. Across tabletop objects and domestic accessories, Chung often draws from oriental culture and Chinese philosophical ideas, translating them into forms that feel minimal, tactile, and quietly expressive. Luminaire's product descriptions for Emptiness Dinnerware, Calligraphy Flatware, and Abundance Airtight Canister reflect this sensibility clearly, showing how she transforms symbolism and ritual into elegant objects for everyday use.
