A Swedish in-house design studio known for a quietly exacting approach to rugs shaped by material knowledge, technical precision, and a deep sensitivity to texture. Its work moves between design development and craft, creating pieces that feel measured, tactile, and enduring.
Kasthall Design Studio is the creative center of Kasthall's design work, based at the company's factory in Kinna, Sweden. Rather than functioning as a single authorial voice, the studio reflects a collective way of working in which ideas are shaped through dialogue between design, craft, and making. Kasthall presents the studio as the place where its own designs take shape from within, guided by close contact with the loom, continuous material exploration, and a strong understanding of weaving and tufting.
That proximity to production is central to the studio's identity. Working directly alongside Kasthall's factory, the studio develops new collections through sketches, technical knowledge, and textile expertise, translating concept into rugs with exceptional control and refinement. The studio also collaborates with external designers, helping turn outside creative ideas into finished rugs through its knowledge of material, structure, and construction. Over time, Kasthall notes that the studio has been shaped by key internal voices, including figures such as Ingrid Dessau, Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, and Maja Johansson Starander, whose contributions helped define the company's modern design language.
