Jay Osgerby is a British designer born in Oxford in 1969. He is best known as one half of Barber Osgerby, the London-based studio he co-founded with Edward Barber in 1996 after the two studied architecture together at the Royal College of Art. From the outset, their practice developed at the intersection of furniture, industrial design, and architecture, establishing a language defined by rigor, invention, and a close attention to how objects are made and used.
Over the years, Osgerby has built an international body of work through collaborations with leading brands including Vitra, Flos, Knoll, B&B Italia, Magis, Emeco, Rimowa, and Kasthall. His work is especially admired for bringing an architectural sense of logic to everyday objects, balancing technical discipline with warmth, tactility, and ease. Projects such as the Tip Ton chair, Olympic Torch 2012, Bellhop lamp, and On & On seating family reflect a design approach that feels highly resolved, materially aware, and distinctly contemporary. Works by Barber Osgerby are held in major museum collections including the V&A, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Vitra Design Museum.
