Dimitri Bähler

Nato nel 1988 | Switzerland

Dimitri Bähler was born in Moutier, Switzerland, in 1988. He studied product design at ECAL in Lausanne and completed an exchange semester at Design Academy Eindhoven before graduating in 2010. In 2014, he established his independent studio in Biel, returning to the region where he grew up. International workshops and residencies, including experiences in the Netherlands and Japan, expanded his understanding of materials, production processes, and regional craft traditions. These formative experiences shaped a practice grounded in careful observation, hands-on investigation, and an openness to unexpected results.

Bähler's studio moves fluidly between industrial production, collectible objects, and spatial installations. His collaborators include HAY, Muuto, Established & Sons, Hermès, Vaarnii, Karimoku New Standard, and Moustache. Designs such as Factor, the Looped Lamp, Attach Coat Hook, Cho light, and Ast stool reveal his ability to reduce an object to its essential structure while preserving warmth, surprise, and visual character. Nominated for the Swiss Design Awards in 2014 and 2015, he received the award in 2023. His work remains defined by a measured balance of simplicity and sophistication, pragmatism and sensibility.

My work is driven by contrasts in general with a strong attraction to the essential.
