Alain Gilles

Nato nel 1970 | Belgium

Alain Gilles is a Belgian designer whose work is distinguished by formal precision, narrative subtlety, and a sophisticated ability to bring movement and character into contemporary furniture and objects. Born in 1970 in Brussels, he first studied Political Science and Marketing Management before spending several years in the financial world. He later returned to study industrial design in France, a decisive shift that shaped the independent and intellectually grounded approach for which he is known today.

He opened his own studio in 2007 and has since developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning product design, furniture, art direction, and scenography. His collaborations with brands such as Bonaldo, Ligne Roset, XL Boom, Vincent Sheppard, and Buzzispace have established him as an important voice in contemporary European design. His work is especially admired for combining architectural structure with softness and visual rhythm, resulting in pieces that feel both intelligent and emotionally resonant. Bonaldo notes that he was named Designer of the Year at Interieur Kortrijk in 2012.
