Lumina was founded in 1980 in Sedriano, near Milan, when Tommaso Cimini transformed his deep knowledge of materials and mechanical engineering into a design philosophy built on one principle: function generates form. Years earlier, in 1975, he had crafted the first prototype of the Daphine lamp, an articulated, minimal structure that became an enduring icon of Italian design and the foundation of Lumina’s identity. Rooted in craftsmanship but driven by technological innovation, the company has maintained complete control of its production in the Milano area, ensuring every detail reflects precision, durability and a commitment to Made in Italy. Now led by Cimini’s sons, Ettore and Andrea, Lumina continues to partner with international designers and architects to create lighting that unites engineering clarity with poetic simplicity, honoring its founder’s original vision of “lots of light, not much lamp.”
