Since 1961, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan has been showcasing the latest in furniture design. Held every year in April, the show has grown continuously to become the leading exposition for the display of new interior products in the world. With 2,775 exhibitors at the main fair and numerous others at shows around the city as part of Design Week Milan, the event offered a unique glimpse at the current state of design, with an extensive range of designers and manufacturers showcasing a seemingly endless supply of objects. Beyond the main fair, Milan’s neighborhoods were transformed into temporary design destinations, each with its own unique personality.
As always, Luminaire was present to source the best new designs from our friends and partners as well as to discover products from up and coming designers and we are pleased to present you with our curated selection of the most innovative new work. From longtime friend and collaborator Piero Lissoni‘s sophisticatedly minimal new designs for brands such as Porro, Living Divani, and Glas Italia, to exuberant designs from Patricia Urquiola at B&B Italia, the selection highlights the ingenuity and creativity found at this year’s fair.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Salone del Mobile has come to be the epicenter of the global contemporary design market. This year, the biennial Euroluce International Lighting Exposition also coincided with the fair with diplays of courageous designs and technological advancements. Additionally, young designers shined in the annual SaloneSatellite Awards, which Luminaire has proudly sponsored since its inception. All in all, this breathtaking combination of events, shows, and fairs provided an opportunity to reflect on design, industry, creativity and on culture.
