During Art Basel Miami Beach and Design Miami 2012 Luminaire is presenting the second installment of Design+World, a comprehensive exhibition that explores how today’s designers are changing the world with forward-thinking design.
Featuring new work by world-renown visionaries such as Japanese designer Oki Sato of Nendo, Belgian ceramist Piet Stockmans and New York City-based design studio RUX, Design+World also debuted groundbreaking products from design brands Flos, Wastberg, Luceplan and Blackbody. This collection of work illustrates the various ways in which designers of different cultural backgrounds are producing enchanting and inspiring designs, often experimenting in new technologies and bold materials.
On Thursday, December 6, 2012 Luminaire opened its doors to hundreds of guests at the Miami Design District showroom to celebrate the exhibition, the participating designers, and the extraordinary role of design across the globe. While socializing with design luminaries, guests enjoyed work presented for the first time in the United States, including the Italian designed and manufactured Ciclotte bike, a true expression of contemporary living that unites work, entertainment, relaxation and exercising in one gracefully minimal design. Five lighting systems on view are available exclusively at Luminaire, including Light Photon by Philippe Starck for Flos, Synapse by Francisco Gomez Paz for Luceplan, Winkel w127 by Dirk Winkel for Wastberg, Stickbulb by RUX, and I.Rain by Thierry Gaugain.
Committed to design education and accessibility for all, Luminaire openly invites visitors to interact with the company’s online store during Design+World. The e-commerce area is prominently displayed on the main floor of the showroom, allowing visitors to learn more about the products Luminaire now offers virtually and the stories they tell. Visitors may additionally purchase these items from the store via their phones by scanning a QR code.
