Luminaire’s philosophy is to discover and illuminate unique creators, designers, and products that represent what it means to be driven by good design. In this continued search for pieces that exemplify this underlying philosophy, Italian-based design brand Pieces of Venice reevaluate the relationship between good design, conscious creation, and social responsibility.
Awarded the 2020 Compasso d’Oro for Social Design Enterprise Project, Pieces of Venice creates design using circular economy principles and a short supply chain. Starting with reclamation and recycling, discarded materials from Venice are given new life through industrial design projects that turn them into souvenirs or useful objects.
The products, ranging from models of the iconic taxi boats and waterbuses, to useful objects like fans and walking sticks, are all dedicated to the unique and world-renowned city of Venice, from their materials to their names. Named for the address of places such as museums and cultural institutions or of a business known for its excellence like a restaurant, the collection creates a map that leads the tourist to discover the city’s hidden treasures.
Pieces of Venice salvages recyclable materials from Venice and its lagoon and transform them into design objects for children and the ‘young at heart’. The client who purchases a Pieces of Venice product will carry with them a genuine piece of Venice, a city that is unique in the world for its beauty, culture, and its history.
